Stoves

There is a huge range of woodburning stoves available both in retail outlets and over the internet. Ultra modern or traditional, dry (space heating only) or wet (with a back boiler for central heating), British, Italian, Austrian – the choices seem endless. It is extremely difficult for someone considering such a system to know where to start or what to choose.

Sustainable Heating Solutions is not tied to any one manufacturer or supplier. We watch the market place for new trends, innovations and price fluctuations and can offer help and advice on the model best suited to meet our customers’ requirements.

Modern stoves are designed to burn cleanly and efficiently by providing optimum burning conditions within the combustion chamber, whereas in a traditional open hearth the majority of the heat is lost up the chimney.

When logs burn they release gases captive in the timber composition; it is the combustion of these gases which produce the majority of heat generated. The correct air supply optimises efficiency and output of the stove, and ensures that a minimum amount of pollution is released to atmosphere.

Boiler stoves are available up to an output of approximately 30kW and can be used to provide heating and hot water to a sizable house – but require regular refuelling, monitoring and maintenance to achieve this so are rarely used as the sole source of heat in a property.

If you have an existing fossil fuel boiler and would like to reduce your dependence on it, the installation of a woodburning stove with a back boiler connected to a buffer tank capable of accepting multiple inputs can be an ideal first step.
