Smart metering
We are keen to encourage customers to reduce their use of all utilities in order to save them money and benefit the environment. We are happy to provide advice on energy/utilities efficiency and also signpost you to any funding availability for these services. The business park at Lee Moor has been active on sub-metering of heat, electric and water over the past 8 years and we are keen to work with so-called ‘smart metering’ companies to demonstrate the latest developments.
Most meters operate from an electronic pulse, this can then be monitored on site or remotely and some utility providers are now supplying multi-utility meters.
The ESCo we operate at Lee Moor uses Kamstrup meters to measure the heat used by our customers in kWh. This is calculated by measuring the volume and flow and return temperature of the hot water supplied to them.
Accurate metering is key to any district heating scheme – and should form part of any proposal to install such a scheme to ensure that all customers are treated fairly and invoiced accurately for the heat they consume.
Electricity meters can be set to measure and report in real time and we have set up a system at Lee Moor of reviewing water use on a 24 hour delay system. We can log on and check the usage minute by minute from the previous day and alarms can also be fitted that would highlight any leaks. This is ideal on a farm or estate and can be set up on a private supply as easily as the mains.
We would be happy to work with you to achieve metering of all utilities and help you to minimise your usage of them. Metering is the first step towards regaining control of your usage.
We are working with the EU on their new ‘DISPLAY’ scheme which is designed to calculate and rate buildings on their CO2, energy and water usage. This is currently a requirement of all public buildings and is a step beyond the Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) that all let buildings must now have.
