Combined heat & power (CHP)

CHP offers the opportunity to produce a variety of different forms of energy – although most installations produce electricity and hot water, thus offering the potential for self-sufficiency in both, with excess electricity being sold to produce an income.

At the heart of any biomass CHP installation is a biomass boiler. Which boiler we specify will depend on a number of factors, but is principally governed by the amount and type of fuel you wish to burn. We can supply boilers which can burn fuel with a moisture content of up to 120% (calculated dry base), although efficiency will obviously reduce with fuels which have a moisture content greater than about 30%.

CHP plants are available starting at 25kWe, and have virtually no upper limit. They can produce steam, hot water, hot air or cooling as well as generating electricity either for your own use or to sell to the National Grid. For companies with a significant amount of waste which is suitable for burning in a CHP plant, waste disposal can become a profitable business.

Our main supplier of boilers for CHP installations is an Italian manufacturer with over 50 years experience. It is vitally important that a CHP plant is professionally designed and installed – we work with a UK based specialist to achieve the very best results for your project.

From project inception through to commissioning – you can be certain that we will work with you every step of the way, and rest assured your CHP system will perform to the parameters we agree at the outset, because we guarantee it.
