Log boilers

Log boilers are the simplest, cheapest, and least efficient form of biomass boiler. They provide very little in terms of sophistication and are not suitable for an automated system. A log burning boiler will need to be manually filled and lit, and the heat from the combustion process is generally stored in large, well insulated hot water tanks – so that you can then draw it off over a period of time.

Typically, you light the boiler once a day, loading it completely full of seasoned log fuel. The logs will burn cleanly and efficiently for 4-5 hours and the heat is stored in the accumulator tanks as very hot water. This hot water then heats your home and provides your domestic hot water.

Because they require manual refilling, log boilers do not respond to sudden changes in demand within the property – you have to foresee changes in demand and ensure that you change your refuelling routine to anticipate them.
